USJ’s School of Education welcomed 47 sixth grade students from Escola Dom João Paulino to its Ilha Verde campus on 9 February for the USJ Junior Scholar Programme.
The University of Saint Joseph’s (USJ) School of Education welcomed 47 sixth grade students from Escola Dom João Paulino to its Ilha Verde campus on 9 February for the USJ Junior Scholar Programme. The initiative provided the young learners with an engaging experience of university life, including lectures, group activities, and a final presentation session.
Bachelor of Education (BEd) students from USJ played a pivotal role in the event. Third- and fourth-year students served as class teachers and lecturers, gaining invaluable hands-on teaching experience through their immersive involvement with the primary school participants. From welcoming and registering to facilitating transitions between lectures on personal health, teamwork, and money management, they assisted with sessions, observed student engagement, and provided real-time encouragement.

The event concluded with a graduation ceremony held at the Don Bosco Auditorium. Certificates were presented to the Junior Scholars by Dr. Alejandro Salcedo, Acting Rector of USJ; Mr. Ng Sai Wa, Principal of Escola Dom João Paulino; and Prof. Isabel Tchiang, Dean of the USJ School of Education.
The Junior Scholar Programme is one of several initiatives through which USJ contributes to the educational fabric of the Macao SAR. By opening its campus to local schools and integrating hands-on teaching experience into its degree programmes, the University supports the development of future educators while fostering academic curiosity among the next generation of students. Such partnerships between schools and universities are instrumental in building an integrated and supportive educational environment in the region.
