USJ is hosting a special Public Lecture by Dr. Felix Leung, Head of Climate Education and Action, Chinese University of Hong Kong, entitled “From Gaia to Anthropocene: Can We Rewrite Our Story with Nature?” from 19:00 – 20:00 at Speakers Hall in USJ NAPE Campus. This talk is part of the “USJ SDG Week 2026” initiative, organised jointly by the USJ Green Committee, the Institute of Science and Environment, and the Doctoral School.
About the Talk:
The presentation explores humanity’s profound and transformative impact on our shared planet. Journeying from the ancient concept of Gaia—Earth as a living, interconnected system—to the modern Anthropocene epoch, this presentation examines pivotal shifts: colonial exploitation, the Green Revolution, and urban development, using Greater Bay Area’s own landscape as a case study. It highlights urgent crises, from biodiversity loss to climate change, while championing nature-based solutions like rewilding. Ultimately, it is a call to move beyond mere admiration for nature toward collaborative, hopeful action, advocating for a sustainable future built on respect and restoration for all life on Earth.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Felix Leung is an active environmental scientist and sustainability leader with over a decade of experience in climate change, ecology, and nature-based solutions. Holding a PhD from the University of Exeter and a Master and Bachelor from Imperial College London, he currently serves at CUHK, managing the Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change, where he coordinates climate education programs and develops interactive exhibition to raise climate change awareness for Hong Kong. He is also an ecologist, a certified arborist, and an active policy advisor. With a strong academic background from Imperial College London and extensive project management expertise during his role as the Climate Change Fellow at The Nature Conservancy, Dr. Leung is dedicated to advancing environmental science and sustainable development.
