The initiative featured teachers from partner schools – Escola de Santa Teresa and Escola de Dom Joao Paulino.
The School of Education of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) recently collaborated with Escola de Santa Teresa and Escola de Dom Joao Paulino to organize Same Lesson, Different Teaching – a class demonstration and showcase held at USJ Ilha Verde Campus. The initiative featured teachers from both partner schools conducting teaching demonstrations on the same topic but utilising distinct pedagogical styles and designs tailored to their students. This approach provided a valuable opportunity for professional exchange and comparative analysis of teaching strategies.
A highlight of the event was the adoption of a remote observation model via real-time video streaming. Moving away from traditional in-class observation, professors and observing teachers gathered in a separate space to watch the lessons. This arrangement reflects USJ’s core “student-centered” philosophy; by physically separating observers from the classroom, the distraction to the young children was minimised, ensuring a natural and relaxed learning environment. This method also facilitated immediate and in-depth professional feedback following the sessions.
Prof. Isabel Tchiang, Dean of the School of Education, highlighted the collaboration as a strong bond between USJ and local schools. She emphasised SED’s commitment to bridging educational theory and practice, expressing hope to extend this collaborative model to more institutions in Macao to jointly build a high-quality, human-centric educational ecosystem.
