USJ Macao and the Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo (IPVC) in Portugal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to reinforce academic and scientific cooperation between the two institutions.
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ), Macao, and the Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo (IPVC), Portugal, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 10 December, to reinforce academic and scientific cooperation between the two institutions.
USJ’s Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Professor Alexandre Lobo, visited IPVC and held institutional meetings with the President of IPVC, Professor Carlos Rodrigues, as well as with Pro-President Ana Teresa Oliveira, Vice-President for Internationalisation Ana Paula Vale, and Professor Pedro Moreira. These meetings enabled a strategic alignment of priorities and the identification of concrete possibilities for collaboration following the signing of the MOU.

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation in areas such as joint research projects, academic and staff mobility, co-supervision of postgraduate students, and the development of shared initiatives in education, innovation, and knowledge transfer. The partnership combines USJ’s role as a bridge between China, Macao, and Portuguese-speaking countries with IPVC’s strong applied research profile and regional innovation ecosystem.
Looking ahead, both institutions plan to jointly design multiple initiatives in pedagogical innovation, with a strong emphasis on COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) exchanges, interactive classrooms, and enhanced student-to-student and faculty-to-student engagement. These initiatives, to be rolled out over the coming semesters, aim to foster intercultural competencies, digital collaboration skills, and meaningful international learning experiences without geographical barriers.
USJ places great importance on its internationalisation strategy and its commitment to strengthening Sino-Lusophone academic networks.
