To enhance cultural engagement and deepen faculty appreciation for art and humanity, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Library organised a faculty visit to the “Love and Peace – Feng Zikai Art Exhibition” at the Hengqin Cultural and Art Center on 18 November 2025.
Co-organized by the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone and the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, the exhibition commemorates the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, showcasing more than 200 works by renowned artist Feng Zikai.
Exhibition Highlights: From “Affection for Homeland” to “Heart of Protecting Life”
The exhibition is divided into four thematic chapters — Affection for Homeland, Poetic Charm, Childlike Fun, and Heart of Protecting Life — tracing Feng Zikai’s artistic exploration of humanity and peace. Through a blend of ink paintings, publications, and multimedia displays, visitors were invited to rediscover everyday life as a source of empathy and philosophical reflection.
USJ members reflected on Feng’s work as a profound dialogue between art and conscience. They viewed the exhibition not only as a visual journey but also as a reminder of education’s moral and cultural responsibilities in preserving humanistic values.
A Library’s Perspective: Art as an Extension of Learning
The simplicity of Feng Zikai’s brushstrokes conceals immense wisdom, his art bridges beauty with conscience. The Library hopes to continue using art and culture to inspire both intellectual growth and empathy within our academic community.”
During the visit, visitors exchanged ideas on integrating art, aesthetics, and peace education in higher education, reaffirming the library’s role as a space of cultural dialogue and reflective learning.
Cultural Exchange and Regional Partnership
The exhibition also serves as a symbol of cultural collaboration within the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, reflecting shared values of compassion, creativity, and peace. The visit strengthened collaboration between USJ and regional cultural institutions, highlighting the university’s active participation in promoting art and education integration.
Prospects and Continuity
The USJ Library remains committed to promoting faculty engagement in cultural and artistic experiences that connect education with emotion and creativity. Future initiatives will include joint exhibitions, talks, and community projects with cultural organizations, continuing the University’s mission — Inspiring ideas through knowledge and foster peace through culture.
