The University of Saint Joseph warmly welcomed the delegation led by Professor Zhang Xiaohong, President of Shaoguan University, on 25 August, 2025. Both parties held discussions engaging in in-depth exchanges on faculty and student exchanges, research collaboration, and distinctive institutional development. They reached multiple cooperative agreements, laying a solid foundation for future collaboration between the two institutions.
Vice-Rector Dr. Teresa Loong of USJ, accompanied by Head of the Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA), Ms. Jenny Lam, Head of Institutional Development Office, Mr. David Yang, Senior Officer of the OSAA, Mr. Andrew Wong, Senior Officer and Officer of Domestic Student Recruitment Office, Ms. Jenny Mok and Mr. Dickson Kyee, warmly received the delegation from Shaoguan University. The Shaoguan University delegation comprised President Professor Zhang Xiaohong, Vice-President Mr. He Jinming, Director of Board of Trustees Office, Miss Tu Ping, Deputy Director of Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and International Affairs Department, Ms. Sarah Liu Shuangna, and Section Chief of Research Division, Party and Administrative Office, Miss Deng Liqin.
The visit commenced with the delegation touring the Ilha Verda Campus, accompanied by university staff, to gain an in-depth understanding of USJ teaching facilities and campus culture. Subsequently, both institutions held formal talks. Vice-Rector Teresa Loong delivered a welcome address, extending a warm welcome to the Shaoguan University delegation, and also noted that Shaoguan University’s basketball team participating in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Basketball Tournament co-organised by USJ, highlighting how sports exchanges broaden students’ horizons. She also recalled the warm reception received during her visit to Shaoguan University on 26 March this year. She expressed gratitude to President Zhang Xiaohong for personally leading the delegation, which fully demonstrated both parties’ high regard for deepening cooperation.
USJ is committed to building bridges between mainland China and the international community, maintaining close cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries and European universities. With abundant international resources, it focuses on cultivating high-caliber talents with a global perspective. At the meeting, both parties agreed to further expand cooperation in areas such as faculty and student exchanges, collaborative research, and talent development, building upon existing foundations. Together, they will foster innovative talents for the high-quality development of the nation and the Greater Bay Area, advancing educational progress.
The meeting unfolded in a warm and cordial atmosphere, with representatives from both sides actively exchanging views. The event concluded with the exchange of commemorative gifts and a group photograph.
