USJ Macao and Assumption University in Bangkok have taken significant steps to enhance the academic partnership during a recent two-day exchange visit to the Albert Laurence School of Communication Arts.

The University of Saint Joseph (USJ Macao) and Assumption University (AU) in Bangkok, Thailand have taken significant steps to enhance the academic partnership during a recent two-day exchange visit to the Albert Laurence School of Communication Arts from 14 to 15 of August. The delegation, led by the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Academic Affairs of USJ Macao, Prof. Álvaro Barbosa, focused on developing practical initiatives to benefit students and academics at both institutions.

The discussions yielded concrete plans for advancing joint academic initiatives, including dual-degree programs, short-term courses, and student exchanges designed to enrich learning experiences. Both universities emphasised the practical benefits of these collaborations while reducing study abroad expenses. The geographic proximity between Macao and Thailand makes exchanges more accessible and economical, delivering international qualifications at an affordable rate without compromising cross-cultural learning.

A highlight of the visit was Prof. Joao’s workshop on AI-powered video creation, which showcased the potential of emerging technologies in media education. The session, enthusiastically attended by AU students and faculty—including Chairperson Dr. Chutinun Kaewkatorn from the Department of Imagineer Media Entrepreneurship and Mr. Naphatrapee Suntorntirnan, a lecturer at Albert Laurence School of Communication Arts —provided hands-on experience with cutting-edge tools and techniques and opened dialogue between students from both universities.

The USJ delegation also toured AU’s advanced communication facilities, gaining valuable insights into international media education standards. These interactions reinforced the importance of global perspectives in contemporary academia and set the stage for future collaborative projects.

With a strong foundation established through the 2023 partnership agreement, both institutions are now poised to launch a series of joint initiatives.

USJ expresses its gratitude to the Education Fund of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government for facilitating this exchange visit through funding support which strengthened institutional bonds and fostered lasting personal connections among participants.
