The University of Saint Joseph’s (USJ) Library presents and concludes “Whisper”, an innovative celebration of the Reading Month of the City of Macao 2025.
The University of Saint Joseph’s (USJ) Library presents and concludes “Whisper“, an innovative celebration of the Reading Month of the City of Macao 2025. This pioneering event transcends traditional reading experiences by integrating the OTTOSONICS 360-degree immersive audio installation, transforming authors’ words into dynamic soundscapes that guide participants on a sensory journey across languages and cultures.
Developed in collaboration with the University of Arts, Linz (Austria), OTTOsonics is an Ambisonics open platform designed to make immersive audio accessible to artists and cultural institutions. USJ Macao is a key partner in this project, pushing the boundaries of immersive audio experiences. The installation, shaped like a visually striking dodecahedron, invites visitors to explore a spatial audio literary journey at the heart of the library.
“Whisper” offers a rich tapestry of languages, including Burmese, Cantonese, English, French, Korean, Mandarin, Patuá, Portuguese, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai, Welsh, and more by students, professors and staff. This diverse linguistic experience reflects the multicultural atmosphere of the university and has garnered widespread appreciation from visitors.
Organised by the USJ Library, English Learning Center and in collaboration with Prof. Gerald Estadieu and Prof. Sandra Olga Ng from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, “Whisper” has captivated audiences with its unique blend of literature and sound. The event offers a fresh perspective on the joy of reading and the power of immersive audio.
