The “Study Mission for Leaders of Higher Education Institutions in Macao,” hosted by the Ministry of Education and undertaken by Tsinghua University, has concluded successfully. Professor Zhang Shuguang, Vice-Rector of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), and Fr. Cyril Jerome Jr Law, Dean of the Faculty of Religious Studies and Philosophy, participated as representatives in the five-day study programme. They successfully completed all scheduled activities and attended the closing ceremony.

This study programme aimed to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between higher education institutions in Macao and top-tier universities in mainland China, focusing on topics such as the construction of graduate education systems, AI-enabled innovative development, and university governance. During the program, Vice Rector Zhang Shuguang and Fr. Cyril Jerome Jr Law engaged in a series of rich learning activities, including keynote lectures, on-site teaching sessions, and panel discussions. They also conducted in-depth discussions with leaders from the Ministry of Education and Tsinghua University on the collaborative development of higher education in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Participants also visited the 200th Base of Tsinghua University’s Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology, the University History Museum, and Huawei’s Beijing Research Institute. Through on-site teaching, they gained insights into the research and development of national key technologies, the inheritance of university history, and corporate innovation practices, further broadening ideas for exchanges and cooperation between higher education institutions in Macao and top mainland universities.

The closing ceremony was held on July 18 at the School of Public Policy and Management, Tsinghua University. All participants, including Vice Rector Prof. Zhang Shuguang and Fr. Cyril Jerome Jr Law, were awarded completion certificates by Mr. Shu Gangbo, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Education, and Mr. Teng Sio Hong, Deputy Director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region. 

Prof. Zhang Shuguang, speaking on behalf of USJ, stated that this study program provided valuable experience for the university to deepen academic cooperation with mainland institutions and promote high-quality development of graduate education. He added that USJ will actively draw on advanced concepts to help Macao’s higher education integrate into the country’s overall development.
