The “GBA Inno-Career and Entrepreneurship Visit 2023” was a 2-day tour visit to Foshan and Zhonghsan, China, organised for USJ’s students, alumni and staff members to explore career, entrepreneurship, and culture.

A group of students, alumni and staff members of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) participated on the “GBA Inno-Career and Entrepreneurship Visit 2023”, a 2-day tour visit to Foshan and Zhonghsan, China, on 20 – 21 October 2023. The Tour was led by Prof. Filipa Martins from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, was organised by the Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) and sponsored by Macao Foundation.

The “GBA Inno-Career and Entrepreneurship Visit 2023” aims to promote a deeper understanding of the Building of the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao. Besides exploring careers and entrepreneurship, participants were able to learn about the cultures of these two cities and its history.

The first stop, in the morning of 20 October 2023, was the warm embrace of E-Park, also known as the Zhongshan Innovation and Entrepreneurship Cooperation Platform for Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao Youth. This incredible public welfare business incubation base, planned, funded, and built by the Zhongshan municipal government, left the participants inspired and motivated.

Later that day, the Tour was greeted with utmost hospitality by the Alumni Association of GuangDong Polytechnic. Professor Zhao Rongjin, former Dean of the College of Art and Design, along with Mr. Wang Hongyu, Vice President of the Alumni Association, showcased their exceptional internship system, equipping final-year students with invaluable skills to thrive in the competitive job market.

The Tour also visited the Ancestral Temple in Foshan, Qinghui Garden in Shunde, and the Museum of the former residence of Dr. Sun Yat-sen in Zhongshan, before having a dismissal in front of the GongBei border control on the final day of the trip.

USJ’s Master of Community Development student, Mr. Abubakar Sadik Abdullah, said “The visit was very productive in terms of human development, internationalisation, cultural transfer, and skills development. Our visit to Epark was very effective, educational, creative, and innovative. Their address system was implemented by offering offices, promotional support, and network connectivity to help the community in Hong Kong and Macau, by providing training and media support to help them start and grow businesses. This culture will yield productive results in the long run, and thus help to address or alleviate some of the shortfalls in the community. (…) In a nutshell, it was a thrilling opportunity and a productive experience. I encourage the school to continue organizing such events for students as it increases students’ momentum.”
