USJ’s Vice-Rector Zhang Shuguang met with the delegation from East Timor on 28 November 2025.
On 28 November 2025, a delegation from the Ministry of Planning and Strategic Investment of Timor East paid a courtesy visit to the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao. The delegation included H.E. Mr. Gastão Francisco de Sousa; Principal Advisor to the Minister, Mr. Júlio Tomás Pinto; Legal Advisor, Ms. Maria Roussal; and Delegate of East Timor to the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation Between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries (Forum Macau), Mr. António Ramos da Silva.
The delegation was cordially greeted by USJ’s Vice-Rector for External Affairs and Institutional Development, Prof. Zhang Shuguang; together with the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Jacky Ho; Prof. António Maneira of the Doctoral School; and Ms Anabela Wong from the Secretariat and Public Relations Office.
During the meeting, Vice-Rector Zhang emphasised Macao’s unique strategic position as a vital link between Lusophone countries and their Eastern counterparts. Leveraging its strong affiliations in Portugal, USJ plays an indispensable role in fostering international exchange and elevating academic research. This alliance exemplifies USJ’s dedication to fostering cross-cultural collaboration and enhancing the global sharing of knowledge in longevity studies.
The aim of the visit was to establish closer collaboration with East Timor in the areas of executive training and talent cultivation in higher education. It was also mentioned that a longevity health alliance between China and Portuguese-speaking countries was successfully launched last month, with USJ serving as a platform for both regions to further enhance academic research and talent cultivation.
