Delegation from Jiangnan University Visits USJ Macao, Discussing New Chapter in Cooperation

This visit by Jiangnan University deepened mutual understanding and laid a solid foundation for the two institutions to sign cooperation agreements and conduct substantive exchanges in the future.
A delegation from Jiangnan University, led by its Vice-President Professor ZHANG Yinglu, and Director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs and Professor from the School of Biotechnology, Professor NI Ye, visited the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao on October 30, 2025. The visit aimed to further promote the internationalization of higher education and strengthen academic exchanges and cooperation between the two universities.
The delegation was warmly received by USJ Vice-Rector Dr. Teresa Loong, along with the Programme Coordinator of the Institute of Science and Environment (ISE) at USJ, Prof. Karen Tagulao, and the Head of the Institutional Development Office, Mr. David Yang.
During the visit, Dr Teresa Loong gave a welcome address to the Jiangnan University delegation. She gave a brief introduction to the history of USJ’s development, its educational characteristics and its internationalisation strategy. Dr. Loong expressed her commitment to further expanding the scope of cooperation between the two universities, with the aim of jointly promoting talent cultivation and scientific research innovation. Professor Zhang Yinglu, Vice President of Jiangnan University, thanked USJ for the warm reception and introduced the university’s history and disciplinary strengths.
During the discussion session, both sides reached a consensus on establishing formal university-level cooperation and initially exploring collaboration in the field of biological sciences. Both parties agreed that the two universities possess high complementarity in their programme offerings and development philosophies, indicating significant potential for cooperation.

USJ Macao continues to advance close ties with outstanding universities in the Greater Bay Area and Mainland China, working together to contribute to the diversified development and innovation of higher education.
About Jiangnan University
Jiangnan University is located in Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, China. It is one of the national key universities directly under the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, selected for the national “211 Project” and the “Double First-Class” initiative. The university originated from the Sanjiang Normal School established in 1902. In 1958, the Food Industry Department of its predecessor, Nanjing Institute of Technology, moved entirely to Wuxi, establishing the Wuxi University of Light Industry. It was renamed Wuxi University of Light Industry in 1995. In 2001, Wuxi University of Light Industry, Jiangnan College, and Wuxi Education College merged to form Jiangnan University.
Jiangnan University has distinct characteristics and advantages in fields such as “Light Industry/Food/Textiles.” For instance, Food Science and Engineering, Light Industry Technology and Engineering, and Textile Science and Engineering are its key construction disciplines.
