USJ donated MOP 10,000 this year to the Macau Special Olympics during the CESL Asia and Friends Sport Fun Day 2025, with the aim to promote inclusiveness and provide support to people with special needs.
The CESL Asia and Friends Sport Fun Day 2025 was held on the 15th November to promote inclusiveness and provide support to people with special needs. The organisation hoped the event would raise awareness of vulnerable communities.
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) took part in the Special Olympics Bocce event. The team included a Special Olympics athlete and three USJ students, namely Chen Shuyuan (MESM Year 2), Abdullah Muhammad (BED Year 1) and Leong In Nok (BED Year 1). The sports day was held at the Workers’ Stadium football field. Everyone learned the rules and techniques of the game from the Special Olympics athletes.
For each team that took part in the Bocce game, CESL Asia would donate MOP 2,000 to the Macau Special Olympics (MSO). This year, USJ continued to donate MOP 10,000 to MSO. Dr. Alejandro Salcedo Garcia, the Administrator of USJ , attended the Charity Cheque Presentation Ceremony.
The OSAA staff of USJ who participated in the event noted that two of the student representatives in the competition are studying the Bachelor of Education programme. As this sports game emphasizes teamwork, it provided them with an opportunity to transform the educational concepts learned in the classroom into practical action while participating with the members of MOS to complete the game. Therefore, this was not just a competition, but also a valuable hands-on experience for the students.
