The ‘Sustainable Business Series: New Opportunities for Social Innovation in Hengqin Development — Blue Ocean Market for Doing Good and Doing Business’, organised by the Faculty of Business and Law of the USJ Macao and co-organised by the HKSGV Platform, took place today at the Sino-Lusophone Business Development Centre (Hengqin) of USJ Macao.
The seminar and networking dinner titled “Sustainable Business Series: New Opportunities for Social Innovation in Hengqin – Blue Ocean Markets for Doing Good” was held on 4 July at the Sino-Lusophone Business Development Centre (Hengqin) of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao. The event was organised by the Faculty of Business and Law at USJ, and co-organised by the HKSGV (Hong Kong Shared Value Platform). The event aimed to bring together policymakers, entrepreneurs, start-up founders, and academic representatives for collaborative exchange, focusing on exploring social innovation practices within the Greater Bay Area and sustainable business development trajectories. It provided insights for businesses pursuing ‘business for good’, social enterprises, benefit corporations, ESG practitioners, and innovators planning to expand into the Greater Bay Area market. Participants learned why ‘good business’ holds particular advantages in Hengqin and how enterprises can access Hengqin’s policy support and leverage cross-border resources to amplify their impact.
The seminar featured a keynote address by Mr Wang Jing, Deputy Director of the Investment Promotion Division, Hengqin Economic Development Bureau. The roundtable discussion included contributions from Mr Wang, Mr Xiao Qidong, Founder and CEO of Shengwu Technology, and Mr He Guotao, Founder and CEO of PQ Times (Hengqin) Information Technology Co., Ltd., moderated by Prof. Florence Lei, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Business and Law of USJ. Distinguished attendees included: Deputy Director Huang Zhongjian of the Hengqin Economic Development Bureau; Investment Promotion Department Director Wu Di of the Hengqin Economic Development Bureau; and Ms Gan Yanxia, Managing Director of Jinglan Cultural Development Co., Ltd.
Prof. Florence Lei, remarked: “Hengqin is not merely a location, but an opportunity — providing fertile ground for the growth of a benevolent economy. The Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone actively fosters deep connections and communication with Hong Kong and Macao, deepening collaboration and integration across regions in areas such as sustainable business culture and sustainable economic development. This drives young people from Hong Kong and Macao to study and exchange within the Greater Bay Area, seek more employment and entrepreneurial opportunities, further strengthen their sense of belonging to the motherland, and align with youth innovation and entrepreneurship policies.”
Ms. Yang Yumei, representative of the Hutchison Hong Kong Shared Value Platform, shared: “Why choose Hengqin? The Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone serves as an “innovation testing ground” within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, offering unique policy incentives (such as tax concessions and cross-border facilitation), industrial support (covering sectors like healthcare, technology, and cultural tourism), and integrated Guangdong-Macao resources. For social enterprises and practitioners of business for good, this is a golden stage where “sustainable development” and “social impact” are equally valued. Hengqin is rapidly emerging as a blue ocean market that combines policy dividends, innovation resources, and social influence.”
