The Public Lecture “What is the relation between Confucianism, Philanthropy, Media and strategic communication? The Impact of Corporate Philanthropy on Media, Art and Technology” organised by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities will take place on 2 May, from 6:30PM, in the Media Lab.



About the Talk:

In communication sciences field, philanthropy has gained importance as a communication tool in the recent years. Corporate philanthropy represents one of the most rapidly growing areas of communication activity today. This article offers a framework for understanding the philanthropy in Macau – SAR. It is argued that philanthropy defines and explores certain tenets essential namely etic, goodwill, generosity, image transfer, focus and strategy. The concept relates these tenets to the achievement of public opinion response, building to a proposed model of how philanthropy works in Macau and the impact on Media, Art and Technology. On this basis, the main objective is to map what are the values of an organization  capable of generating communication flows propitious to innovation through philanthropy activity. Overall, this study finds that the personal characteristics of individual philanthropists, their sensitivity and goodwill for the arts, innovation and technologies are a differentiating factor in the strategic decision. This paper demonstrates that Philanthropists can contribute to social stability, improving social awareness and the perception of corporate social philanthropy.

Dr. Cármen Zita Monereo

Cármen Zita Monereo, holds a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences, specialization in Communication and Arts at NOVA University of Lisbon, Master (M.Sc.) in Communication and Media Studies cum laude at Catholic University of Portugal and a B.A in Management at Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal; Postgraduation in Financial Instruments, Products and Markets at NOVA School of Business and Economics and Postgraduation in Cultural Management (Catholic University of Portugal). Research interests focused on branding, strategic communication, digital communication. In parallel to academic activities, she gained experience in Financial industry as well strategy consulting. Researcher at ICNOVA and Pos-Doctoral researcher at University of Saint Joseph, Macau, China.
