The Public Lecture “Tracing Philippine History in Macao: A lecture on the historical connections between the Philippines and China” will take place on 21 November, from 3:00PM in the Don Bosco Auditorium.



About the Speaker:

AMBETH R. OCAMPO is the premiere Public Historian of the Philippines. His research covers the colonial Philippines: its art, culture, and the people who figure in the birth of the nation.

A Senator Gil J. Puyat Professor of History, Ateneo de Manila University and Distinguished Professorial Lecturer, De La Salle University, he writes, Looking Back, the longest running editorial page column on history for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, and has published over 35 books the most recent being: History in Lockdown (2024) and Cabinet of Curiosities: History from Philippine Artifacts (2023) that has recently been published in German and Malay translations.

He served as: President, City College of Manila; President, Philippine Historical Association; Co-Chair, Manila Historical and Heritage Commission; Chairman, National Historical Commission of the Philippines and Chairman, National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

His work has been recognized with: three National Book Awards; TOYM Ten Outstanding Young Men in the field of History, and the Metrobank Outstanding Teacher.

He was conferred the Presidential Medal of Merit and the Order of Lakandula by the Republic of the Philippines. His foreign honors include: knighthoods from the Republic of France, the Kingdom of Spain, and the 2016 Fukuoka Academic Prize.

In another life, he was a Benedictine monk known as Dom. Ignacio Maria, OSB. In his lucid moments, he currently moderates growing FB, IG, and YT channels.
