Doctoral Talks on Campus | Navigating Nature's Flows: Art, Design, and the Environment (part I)

30

Oct

The Doctoral Talks on Campus: “Navigating Nature’s Flows: Art, Design, and the Environment (part I)” will take place on 30 October at the USJ Conference Room.

ABOUT DOCTORAL TALKS ON CAMPUS:

Fostering transdisciplinary perspectives in thought, research and development in the doctoral and post-doctoral programmes of the University of Saint Joseph in Macao.

ABOUT THE TALK:

This two-day intensive seminar aims to provide a critical and nuanced reflection on the relationship between design, art, nature, and the environment from a Latin American perspective, with a particular focus on Brazil’s contributions. The seminar is rooted in contemporary debates surrounding the Anthropocene and the climate crisis, challenging the modern, extractivist, and colonial paradigms that continue to shape our ways of life.

On the first day, participants will explore key issues in art, design, and political ecology, including critiques of Western development and the rise of practices that embrace pluriverse visions, ancestral technologies, and environmental coexistence. Examples from Latin American artists will demonstrate how aesthetics, politics, and technology serve as forms of resistance and reimagining the world.

Keywords: Nature; Art and Technology; Installation; Devices; Interfaces.
