Department of Architecture and Design Lecture Series Fall 2022 I “Spatial Transgressions”

09

Nov

The USJ Department of Architecture and Design (DAD) is organising the Lecture Series Fall 2022 – Alternative Processes “Spatial Transgressions” in 09 November, 2022.

ABOUT THE SERIES:

The USJ Department of Architecture and Design (DAD) is pleased to announce the Lecture Series Fall 2022, inviting students, architects, designers and the wider community to join and share an open dialogue. The lecture series will stage public conversations with speakers from across the architecture discipline under the theme “Alternative Processes”. At a moment when the profession is going through some significant questions on a global scale, we will explore the working processes of practitioners that gravitate on the boundaries of architecture, seeking alternatives to the established forms of architectural design.

With this initiative, DAD highlights its commitment to experimental work at the edge of the discipline, outlining propositions for alternative forms of practice. The Fall 2022 lecture series includes five sessions featuring the work of five innovative architects and design studios.

ABOUT THE TALK:

Transgression means to ‘cross over’: borders, disciplines, practices, professions. This lecture explores the architecture of Fahr 021.3 and how the transgression of boundaries produces new forms of architectural spaces and praxis.

The work of Fahr provides perspectives on emerging and transgressive architecture. It explores the approach of Filipa Frois and Hugo Reis into global processes of design and emerging trends in architectural production, examining alternative ways of practicing architecture and still reimagining in the profession. At the forefront of exploring trans-disciplinary projects and practice, “Transgressions” will be the key for future architects with an interest in the changing nature of architectural and spatial disciplines.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

FAHR 021.3® is an internationally awarded creative and experimental studio, which (un) focuses its work between Art and Architecture. Deriving from the German word Erfahrung (experience), FAHR 021.3 stands up as a lab studio developing conceptual strategies on the brink of unexpected, contradiction and decontextualization. The restlessness and the constant desire to seek new solutions, give rise to a variety of performances differing on manifesto, temporary, scale and materials.

The studio has been distinguished internationally for a set of projects that are characterized by their formal and provocative approach such as Hairchitecture (PT), São João Structure (PT), Metamorfose (PT), Eclipse (PT), Nappe (TW) and Nook (TW). In 2018, Serralves Pavilion was presented at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia – PUBLIC WITHOUT RHETORIC. In 2019 they were selected for the 40 under 40 European Design Award, Europeans Center for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies.
