USJ receives three Postdoctoral Fellows

The University of Saint Joseph received funding from the Macau Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) for three postdoctoral fellows.



The funding is supported by the 2025 Technology Research and Development Talent Funding Scheme (Enterprise R&D Talent Category and Postdoctoral Category), where the Postdoctoral Category aims to support Macao residents in carrying out research projects within the research systems of Macao higher education institutions.

The three postdoctoral fellows, Dr. Manuel Chau, supervised by Prof. Alexandre Lobo; Dr. Muhammad Bashir Saidu, supervised by Prof. André Antunes; and Dr. Wilson Jorge Gomes Caldeira, supervised by Prof. José Simões, will conduct research in the Faculty of Business and Law, the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences, and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities for two years. 

Below is the postdoctoral project information:

Project 1:

  • Postdoctoral fellow: Dr. Manuel Chau 
  • Supervisor: Prof. Alexandre Lobo
  • Faculty: Faculty of Business and Law
  • Project title: Short-Term Forecasting of Macau’s Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) Using Big Data, with Quantum Computing Extensions for Enhanced Accuracy

Project 2:

  • Postdoctoral fellow: Dr. Muhammad Bashir Saidu
  • Supervisor: Prof. André Antunes
  • Faculty: Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences
  • Project title: Exploring extremophiles as a source of new solutions for the production of sustainable biomaterials

 Project 3:

  • Postdoctoral fellow: Dr. Wilson Jorge Gomes Caldeira
  • Supervisor: Prof. José Simões
  • Faculty: Faculty of Arts and Humanities
  • Project title: Generative AI and the Disruption of Communication: Ethics and Trust in Human–Machine Relations
