To elevate educational productivity and regional integration, the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) and Alibaba Cloud Macau are joining forces to empower educators through the integration of cutting-edge artificial intelligence.
The collaboration was initiated during a recent visit to the Alibaba Cloud Macau office by Prof. Emil Marques, Head of the Executive Training and Lifelong Learning Office (ETLLO), and Prof. Alessandro Lampo, Head of the Department of Business Studies at the Faculty of Business and Law (FBL). The meeting demonstrates a commitment to connecting academia and industry, with a particular focus on using Alibaba Cloud’s latest generative AI models to support the growth of the education community.
During the visit, the USJ delegation was welcomed by senior Alibaba Cloud Macau executives, Mr. Rex Choi and Mr. Alpha Tang who showcased the company’s most recent breakthroughs in cloud computing, big data, and generative AI solutions. At the core of the discussions was a shared vision: utilising Alibaba Cloud’s state-of-the-art AI models to directly enhance educator productivity. By equipping teachers and academic leaders with these advanced tools, the partnership aims to streamline administrative tasks, personalize curriculum development, and foster highly innovative, efficient learning environments.
Recognising that the modernisation of education begins with the empowerment of its educators, the collaboration will focus on up-skilling teaching faculty. This “train-the-trainer” approach ensures that educators are not only proficient in the latest AI technologies but can effectively translate these tools into practical applications for their classrooms.
“This partnership allows us to develop practical AI training that benefits both our students and local SMEs, ensuring Macau’s workforce remains competitive in the digital age,” said Prof. Emil Marques. By first targeting the productive development of educators through Alibaba Cloud’s AI models, USJ ensures that AI literacy cascades down to benefit the broader community.
Prof. Alessandro Lampo highlighted the macroeconomic impact of this educational shift, noting that AI literacy among educators and professionals is becoming indispensable for sustainable growth and cross-border collaboration within the Greater Bay Area.
To actualise this vision, USJ and Alibaba Cloud Macau are actively developing a suite of targeted training workshops and certification programs. These initiatives will be specifically designed to enhance AI literacy and productivity among educators, business leaders, and the wider Macao community, providing hands-on experience with Alibaba Cloud’s generative AI models.
This visit marks a proactive and strategic step by USJ to embed cutting-edge technology into its academic and community outreach frameworks. By prioritising the technological empowerment of educators, USJ and Alibaba Cloud Macau are reinforcing their roles as vital catalysts for inclusive growth, educational excellence, and international collaboration in the digital age.
