Six full and six half scholarships to support top students from Macao’s six diocesan secondary schools over four years of undergraduate studies at the University of Saint Joseph.
Dr Lucas Lo has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) to fund six full scholarships and six half scholarships for undergraduate programmes at the university. The scholarships will support the strongest candidates from all six diocesan secondary schools in Macao, covering the full four years of study starting with the 2025/2026 intake at USJ.
The six schools include Colégio Diocesano de São José (CDSJ) 2, 5 and 6, Escola de São Paulo, and the English and Chinese sections of Escola Santa Rosa de Lima.
Scholarships of this kind play a meaningful role in expanding access to higher education for local students. By supporting candidates from Macao’s Diocesan schools, the initiative helps ensure that financial considerations do not prevent talented young people from pursuing a university education. For USJ, such partnerships strengthen the university’s ability to recruit high-achieving students and contribute to the development of local talent.
The MoU was signed between Dr. Lucas Lo and Dr. Alejandro Salcedo Garcia, Acting Rector of USJ, in the presence of the Most Reverend Bishop Stephen Lee Bun-Sang, Chancellor of USJ, on Friday, 22 May 2026.

Prior to the signing of the MoU, Dr. Lucas Lo’s family and members of the USJ community gathered at the Holy Cross Chapel, where Bishop Lee celebrated a requiem Mass in memory of Mr. Guilherme Lo, the late father of Dr. Lucas Lo, and after whom the Library at the Ilha Verde Campus is named.

The day also included the presentation of the Honourable Mention awarded by the BLT Built Design Awards to the USJ Guilherme Lo & Teresa Lei Lo Library, commonly known as the “LO Library”, named in honour of the Lo family. The BLT Built Design Awards is an international competition recognising excellence in architecture, interior design, and construction. The Honourable Mention is a significant recognition that places the LO Library among top design projects worldwide.

The Lo family has a long-standing commitment to supporting education and community development in Macao. Over the years, Dr Lucas Lo and his family have made a series of donations to USJ. The family’s broader legacy is focused on contributing to the betterment of society and nurturing the next generation of leaders in Macao.
USJ expresses its deep gratitude for the family’s ongoing support, which continues to benefit both the university and the wider community.
