USJ Marks 30th Anniversary with Faith, Reflection, and Staff Recognition

The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) marked its 30th anniversary on 16 April 2026.

The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) marked a historic celebration on 16 April 2026 as it commemorated 30th anniversary in a programme that united faith, intellectual purpose, and the people who have built the institution over three decades.

The day began with a Celebration of Easter Mass in the morning at the Holy Cross Chapel on the Ilha Verde Campus, presided over by His Excellency Bishop Stephen Lee Bun-sang, Chancellor of USJ.

Following the Mass, the assembly, comprised of all faculty and administrative staff of USJ, moved to the Fátima Auditorium for a keynote reflection on the identity of Catholic higher education. Rev. Prof. Father Cyril Law, Dean of the Faculty of Religious Studies and Philosophy, delivered a talk titled “Catholic Universities – the Whys and Whens on the occasion of USJ’s 30th Anniversary”. The address explored the enduring mission and relevance of Catholic universities, framed by USJ’s three decades of service to Macao and the wider region.

The event concluded with the Presentation of Long Service Awards, presented by Acting Rector of USJ, Dr. Alejandro Salcedo Garcia. The awards ceremony held profound significance, honouring faculty and staff members who have dedicated many years to USJ, recognising their contributions to its growth and stability over the past three decades.

As USJ looks forward to the next thirty years, it reflects on its purpose and the people who have contributed to its history. In light of this, it has been announced that, from next year onwards, 19 March (Saint Joseph’s Day) will be celebrated as “USJ Community Day“.
