The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao has launched its new institutional video “This is USJ Macao”, showcasing its multicultural community, student life, and East-West bridge role with an original soundtrack by Pedro Marques. Directed by local talent, it celebrates the university’s Catholic heritage and global ethos ahead of its 30th anniversary.

The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Macao has launched a new institutional video titled “This is USJ Macao”, a production that encapsulates the essence of the university’s vibrant and multicultural community.

Founded in 1996 as a private Catholic university, USJ builds upon Macao’s rich 450-year legacy of Catholic higher education. Acting as a vital bridge between China and the Portuguese-speaking world, the institution nurtures intercultural dialogue, critical thinking, ethical values and holistic personal growth. Its diverse student body and faculty reflect a truly international environment, equipping graduates with the skills to thrive in a globalised world.

The video centres on USJ students, the authentic faces of campus life. It showcases moments of academic passion, cultural exchange, hands-on learning, community outreach, and personal growth, anchored in values such as integrity and creativity. Faculty members from across the university’s faculties also appear, illustrating the genuine supportive and interdisciplinary teaching environment that defines USJ.

The production is a culmination of exceptional talent within the USJ community, directed by acclaimed Macao-born director and cinematographer António Sanmarful, who is a visiting academic at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH), and edited by Prof. João Brochado, Head of the FAH Department of Media, Art and Technology.

A key highlight of the production is the creation of the university’s first-ever bespoke original soundtrack, composed by renowned Portuguese soundtrack composer Pedro Marques. His contemporary and evocative score subtly incorporates cultural echoes of Macao’s multicultural heritage, drawing from East-West influences, providing emotional depth, cohesion, and inspiration to the narrative.

As USJ approaches its 30th anniversary on 16 April 2026, this video celebrates the university’s ongoing journey of tradition, innovation, and growth.
