USJ Macao, represented by Vice-Rector Professor Álvaro Barbosa, engaged in new international partnerships and future MoUs following successful engagements at APAIE 2026 in Hong Kong, advancing Macao’s vision as a premier regional center for higher education collaboration.
The University of Saint Joseph (USJ Macao) participated in the APAIE 2026 Conference and Exhibition, held from 23 – 27 February in Hong Kong under the theme “Asia-Pacific Partnerships for the Global Good“. Represented by Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Academic Affairs Professor Álvaro Barbosa, USJ Macao engaged with international partners and prospective collaborators to strengthen ties in training, research, and academic exchange. These activities promoted the quality of education at USJ Macao while supporting international student recruitment, accessing global investment opportunities, and attracting experts and researchers for long-term collaboration.
During the event, USJ Macao engaged with representatives from institutions across Canada, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, South Korea, Taiwan (ROC), Thailand, the United States, Vietnam, and others, exchanging discussions on the academic areas of common interest.
Following the APAIE 2026, and to further expand its international cooperation, USJ Macao had the opportunity to welcome visits of the representatives from various partners institutions, including:
- Fu Jen Catholic University (FJCU) Taiwan (ROC)
- Universidad Popular Autonóma del Estado de Puebla, (UPAEP), Mexico
- Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC), Spain
- Sogang University, South Korea
- Hochschule Mainz University of Applied Sciences, Germany
- Universidade de Brasília (UnB), Brazil
- Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (UAJY), Indonesia
- Christ University, India
- Chiang Mai University, Thailand
- University of Economics Ho Chi Minh (UEH), Vietnam
These visits enabled in-depth conversations, identification of concrete collaboration opportunities, and fruitful discussions that culminated in commitments to sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in the near future.
Professor Álvaro Barbosa emphasised the significance of the participation in APAIE 2026, as “not merely a promotional activity, but a strategic step toward realising the vision of positioning Macao Higher Education as an international research and training hub of the region“, contributing to enhancing the position and reputation of Macanese higher education on the regional and global education map. Furthermore, this activity also opens up numerous new opportunities for cooperation in training, research, and academic exchange; creates sustainable value for learners and the global education community; and projects the image of USJ Macao as a proactive, flexible, and internationally integrated academic partner.
