The USJ School of Education welcomed a delegation from the National Engineering Research Center for E-Learning (NERCEL) at Central China Normal University (CCNU) to advance AI education and digital literacy assessment collaboration.

From 20 to 22 January, the School of Education (SED) at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) hosted a delegation from the National Engineering Research Center for E-Learning (NERCEL) at Central China Normal University (CCNU) in Wuhan, for an academic visit focusing on advancing AI education and digital literacy assessment collaboration.

The delegation led by Professor Wu Di, Executive Deputy Director of NERCEL, was warmly welcomed by Prof. Isabel Tchiang, Dean of SED, Prof. Wu Hao, Research Coordinator for SED, along with Prof. Iris Mak, Prof. Jana Ho, Prof. Miranda Mak, Prof. Wenmin Zhao, and Ms Tammy Chu. The visiting team also included Associate Professor Zhu Sha and Assistant Professor Kuang Xiulin from the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence in Education in CCNU, and Ms. Zhang Daixi, Director of the Office of the Ministry of Education’s Strategic Research Base for Educational Informatization (Central China).

During the three-day visit, the delegation and USJ representatives visited several local educational institutions including Colégio Diocesano de São José 5 (CDSJ5), Pui Ching International Middle School, and Macau Anglican College. These visits provided the delegation with in-depth insights into the development and practical application of digital education and artificial intelligence within Macao’s school system.

A highlight of the exchange was a public lecture held on 20 January at the USJ Don Bosco Auditorium. Professor Zhu Sha delivered a presentation titled “Standards-led, Evaluation-driven, Classroom Transformation: Innovative Paths and Practical Exploration of AI Education in China 標準引領·評價驅動·課堂變革:內地人工智慧教育的創新路徑與實踐探索“. The session shared insightful theoretical frameworks and practical experiences regarding AI in education from China, drawing interest from local educators and practitioners.

The core of the exchange involved detailed discussions on “digital literacy assessment” research. The USJ School of Education expressed high regard and support for the CCNU team’s proposal to conduct related research and surveys in Macao.

Both parties look forward to maintaining close communication and working together to explore digital literacy development paths that are uniquely suited to the educational landscape of Macao.
