Reflections from Volunteers
One participating student, Xie Sisi, a second-year student majoring in the Master of Environmental Sciences and Management (MESM) at the Institute of Science and Environment (ISE) of USJ, expressed her sincere gratitude to the university for providing such a valuable opportunity. She felt honored to be involved in a major national event, describing it as a precious and glorious experience during her study journey. As an anti-doping assistant, she was responsible for giving information to the selected athletes and accompanying them throughout the process. “This role not only taught me the importance of strict procedures and attention to details, but it also gave me a deeper understanding of what it means to safeguard the integrity of the competition. By performing every duty with care, I did my best to ensure that every athlete could shine to their fullest potential on a fair playing ground.”
Zhang Shengjia, a second-year student majoring in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the Faculty of Business and Law (FBL) at USJ, who served at the venue enquiry counter said, “It is a great honor to be a volunteer for this national event. Taking up my role at the counter, I answered questions such as venue locations for individuals with disability and hearing impairment, and worked with like-minded peers. This warm and fruitful experience has become an unforgettable and cherished memory in my heart. Liang Wanqi, another second-year MBA student, shared her feeling, “I am particularly grateful to the university for giving me the opportunity to participate in the National Games. This experience at the information station has become a precious memory of my study. Every day at the counter, I helped people with the competition schedules and directions to venues. While partnering with a hearing-impaired volunteer, I gradually learned some practical sign language. This experience made me realize that the value of volunteering lies in every patient answer we provide. Learning sign language taught me that sincere communication never relies on just one method. The warmth and growth from this volunteer period have far outweighed all the effort paid.”
Ung Pak Kio, a third-year student from the Bachelor of Social Work (BSWP) also expressed his sincere thanks to the university for providing him with this valuable volunteer opportunity, which allowed him to devote himself wholeheartedly to participating in the National Games with great enthusiasm. He has always been deeply passionate about this event and looked forward to contributing the best of his ability. Through his actions, he hoped to convey warmth and strength, fully supporting the smooth operation of the event. He was inspired to witness the perseverance and brilliance of the athletes through service and dedication, adding his own contribution to the success of the activity.
One of the USJ staff from the Office for Student and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) believed that leading the student volunteers to serve the National Games was a truly meaningful and practical education process. The student volunteers had demonstrated professionalism, enthusiasm, and a sense of responsibility in their roles of anti-doping, guidance and consultation. It allowed them to genuinely experience the spirit of “dedication, friendship, mutual assistance, and progress” through their service. The students’ proactive commitment, teamwork, and strong sense of mission in serving the public embody the educational goal of fostering virtue and nurturing talent. USJ is proud of the excellent performance and positive attitude of our student volunteers. It is hoped that this service experience will deepen our students’ understanding and practice of inclusion, enabling them to respect one another, and translate goodwill into concrete actions through service.
The activity simultaneously promotes SDG 3 (Good health and well-being) and 10 (Reduced inequalities).
