Prof. Isabel Morais presented a paper entitled ” The ‘ Chee Kung Tong’ in Mozambique: Survival Strategies under Colonial Rule in Portuguese East Africa ( 1858-1975)”
Prof. Isabel Morais presented a paper entitled ” The ‘ Chee Kung Tong’ in Mozambique: Survival Strategies under Colonial Rule in Portuguese East Africa ( 1858-1975)” at ” The International Conference on Secret Societies and Popular Movements in Chinese and Southeast Asian History”, held at the University of Macau, 18-20 December 2014. ( It was the first international conference held at UMAC new campus on Hengqin Island.)
The conference was organized by the Department of History of the University of Macau (UMAC) and brought together international scholars from China, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Europe, Australia, Canada, and the United States. The objective of this international conference was to allow scholars to meet and present new research on the history of Chinese and Southeast Asian secret societies and popular movements. The two keynote speakers were Profs. Qin Baoqi ( People’s University, Beijing and one of the founders of the Qing History Institute at the People’s University) and David Ownby (University of Montreal, Canada).
