Prof. Alan Baxter attended Forum for Education and Cultural Exchange between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries on 7th and 8th November 2016.



On the 7th and 8th November, Prof Alan Baxter, Dean of Humanities USJ, accompanied a delegation from the Universidade dos Açores, Fundação Jorge Álvares (Lisboa) and the Colégio de São Tomás (Lisboa), to the Forum for Education and Cultural Exchange between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries. The Portuguese delegation was headed by Prof. Dr. Tomás Ponce Dentinho, of the University of the Açores, and included Dr. Isabej Anjos, of the Fundação Jorge Álvares (Lisboa), and Dr. Isabel Almeida Brito, rector of the Colégio de São Tomás (Lisboa), and Dr José Azevedo and Dra Helga Barcelos, also of the University of the Açores.

The Forum, hosted by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, was held at the Institute of Regional Studies of the Beijing University of International Business and Economy (UIBE). Key participants included representatives of all the Beijing universities concerned the Portuguese-speaking countries. Accompanying the Portuguese delegation, Prof Baxter and Prof Carlos André (IPM) represented the Macau higher education institutions, while other participants included the Brazilian economist Prof Cláudio Puty (Universidade Federal do Estado de Pará, former Deputy Secretary of the Brazilian Department of Labor and Social Security), and representatives of the Portuguese and East Timor diplomatic missions.

At the forum, Prof Baxter presented a paper titled Portuguese and Chinese: Brief thoughts on their teaching for international communication. Subsequently, on the 8th and 9th od November, Prof Baxter gave overviews of the USJ during meetings at the Beijing International Studies University and the Institute of Foreign Languages of the Communication University of China.
