The past weekend, a new debater (Igbinobaro Victory) joined a debate competition held and organized by the Macau University of Science and Technology called the Supernova English Debate Tournament. It is a two day tournament and the debating format was British Parliamentary (i.e. 15 minutes preparation for motions, 7 minute speeches and two debaters per team). Victory was a USJ representative in a Composite Team (made up of debaters from different institutions) with an MUST debater.

They broke to the semifinals in 5th position, then won the semifinal round and finally lost in the finals. This is the first time that a USJ debater has made it to the finals in a debating competition. Although this was a novice cup, it is a major stepping stone for USJ debating, and the society wishes to build upon this momentum and bring home more outstanding results.
Joyce Alcazaren & Mukeh Kanagbo were invited panel adjudicators in the tournament for both days.
