My experience with the PGDE at USJ has been a transcending experience allowing me to begin another stage of my profession. For a decade, I have been teaching as an ESL educator in Macau. However, my experience had been largely in learning centres and select school projects with only a BSc in Psychology and a TEFL. My larger desire had been to teach regularly in schools so I may have the biggest impact on reaching students and their pursuit of the English language. A door opened for me in 2024 as I began as a primary school teaching assistant at a well-known local school.

This opportunity would not be complete without completing a PGDE. So, in 2024, I started my PGDE while working full-time. The intensive program managed to fit my schedule so that I could continue to work as an “in-service” teacher. More importantly, I gained further insight and skills that improved my teaching methods as well as improving my relationship with the children I teach. Today, I am now fully licenced with DSDEDJ and better prepared starting my next year as an English subject teacher thanks to the PGDE program at USJ.
