Dear Students, Professors, and Colleagues,
Last November 13 and 15, our Year 4 students keenly participated in a coastal clean-up activity as part of the topic “Building Better, Greener Communities” within their core module “Building Communities”. It was not an easy task for the students but they were able to collect and sort (recyclable plastics, bottles, cans, among many others) many big bags of litter from a small sandy beach area in Taipa (Avenida do Oceano, close to the base of the Ponte da Sai Van Bridge).
One hundred twenty students were not enough to totally clean-up the area because of the vast amount of litter, a large proportion of which are from plastic products. It was not a good sight, but it was an eye-opener that may raise more awareness about environmental issues in our local community. The students did a worthwhile service to the community.
May this serve as an inspiration for others to do the same and for us all to be more conscious about how our lifestyle affect our community’s natural environment.
This activity was organized by the module lecturer Karen Tagulao with assistance from IACM (民政總署/Instituto para os Assuntos Cívicos e Municipais).
Thanks,
