Harlan has an M.A. in Communication & New Media from the University of Macau and a B.A. in Media from Hunter College (CUNY).
At present Harlan is a lecturer at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) where he has employed educational technologies to complement and enhance pedagogical techniques in order to aide undergraduates in the development of their reading, speaking, listening, and writing proficiency in the English language. Harlan has participated in a DSEJ teacher training venture for in-service English language teachers in Cong Jiang, Guizhou. Prior to assuming his current post at USJ Harlan was a lecturer and course convener at United International College (UIC) where he taught English skills at every undergraduate level as well as designed and led a team of lecturers in teaching an advanced academic writing course to collegiate junior & senior English Language Learners. Before heading over to China, Harlan began his teaching career at the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) where he taught mathematics and basic introductory tech courses to recent ESL immigrants at the secondary level.
