About the talk

Though students with giftedness have had higher learning capacities, they also need school and family to work together to bring out their potentials. Teachers do not play only the role of an educator but also as a facilitator for their potentialities. Thus, schools should provide education opportunities for this group of students with higher learning capacities so that they can realise their potentials in a learning environment signified by flexible pedagogies. Gifted education is actually a strategy that helps nurture multi-facetedness of the development of students with giftedness. It could systematically help nurture them in a decent way and take good care of their learning needs.

Parent education is one of the important factors in facilitating gifted education because parents play a significant role in children’s development. Research findings demonstrate that the parenting style is a key factor affecting children’s development and their achievement in future. If parents can thoroughly understand the traits of children with giftedness, assisting them to cope with emotional problems and master well the skills of nurturing them, it will certainly strengthen their learning capacities.

In this seminar, the speaker will share with audience the policy of gifted education in Hong Kong and the curriculum development of gifted education in school so as to assist teachers in Macau to promote the curriculum of gifted education and facilitate students with giftedness to demonstrate and maximize their talents.
