Creative with a Purpose

The ‘Vision and Prototypes’ exhibition showcases a selection of studio works produced during the 2011-2012 academic year by architecture and design students of the University of Saint Joseph. This event enables students to demonstrate how they are contributing to the society where they live, to use their talents to create changes around them, and to encourage them to have and realize their dreams. ‘Visions and Prototypes’ synthesizes a holistic and intense process-based learning.

A lot is going on in Macau regarding Science and social participation in educational and truly fun events. This is one of them. Our University is organizing this public "Macau Solar Challenge" event, and there will be over 50 teams participating. You really don't want to miss this.

Macau Solar Challenge Training Session

A teacher training session for the 2012 Macau Solar Challenge was held at the University of Saint Joseph on Saturday 5 May. Around 12 teachers from Sheng Kung Hui Escola Choi Kou (Macau), Pooi To Middle School Macau-- Primary Section, Colegío Diocesano de São José – Primary Section, Escola São Paulo, Escola Secundária Luso-Chinesa de Luís Gonzaga Gomes, Escola Keang Peng( Secção Secundária), Hou Kong Middle School, University of Saint Joseph participated, along with students from the University and the children of 5 staff. Participants learned about solar energy and solar powered model boat design. They also made and raced model boats. Unfortunately, the sun was not shining so that batteries had to be used in place of the solar panels, but everybody still had a lot of fun with the races.

The Macau Solar Challenge is in its third year, and the final race day will be on Saturday 21 July at the lake at the Venetian® Macau- Resort- Hotel, Cotai. Around 50 teams and over 250 school children will be competing. There will also be an exhibition of solar energy held in conjunction with the races.

This year, the Macau Solar Challenge is being sponsored by The Science & Technology Development Fund, the Venetian® Macau- Resort- Hotel, Cotai, Coca-Cola (MOCCB) Macau Coca-Cola Bottler, CEM; and supported by the Lotus Consultants Ltd., Creative Macau, the Macau Institution of Engineers (AEM) and the Macau Innovation and Invention Association.

「2012年澳門太陽能遙控模型船挑戰賽」輔導教師技術訓練日

由聖若瑟大學主辦的「2012年度澳門太陽能遙控模型船挑戰賽」輔導教師技術培訓班於五月五日星期六在聖若瑟大學第一校舍舉辦，來自陳瑞祺永援中學、培道中學小學部、聖若瑟教區中學小學部、聖保祿中學、高美士中葡中學、鏡平中學、濠江中學以及聖若瑟大學等一共十二位教師參與了是次培訓，除了教師以外，還有來自五位教職員的小朋友。

參與者學會了有關太陽能及以太陽能電池驅動模型船的原理，他們也一起製造了及比拼了他們的太陽能船。可惜，天公不做美，太陽的光度未能令太陽能板發揮理想地發揮, 而須要用電池來取代太陽能發電，但參加比拼的人都非常興奮及十分快樂。

「澳門太陽能遙控模型船挑戰賽」今年已舉辦到第三年，而本年度的決賽日已定於七月二十一日星期六， 在位於路氹金光大道澳門威尼斯人Ò-度假村-酒店的室外人工湖進行。當天將會有五十七組隊伍，超過二百八十位學生參與競賽。除此之外，還會在競賽中展出有關於太陽能的展覽。

今年，「澳門太陽能遙控模型船挑戰賽」的贊助商為澳門科技發展基金、澳門威尼斯人Ò-度假村-酒店、澳門可口可樂公司、澳門電力股份有限公司，本次競賽亦得到蓮花顧問有限公司、創意澳門、澳門建築師學會以及澳門創新發展協會支持。
