Ana Cristina V. Neves completed her bachelor's in Modern Languages and Literatures at New University of Lisbon in 1995. She has accumulated teaching experience of three different languages in three different continents: Portuguese, English and German in Africa, Europe and Asia, from the primary to the tertiary level. She collaborated as a translator in tourism and legal fields and cultural mediator in the educational domain in the German speaking countries. She completed her MA in Translation at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Germany. In 2004/5 she received a grant from the Credit Institute of the University of Zurich to study for a PhD in Linguistics. Between 2006/7 she collaborated in the Swiss National research programme Sprachenvielfalt und Sprachkompetenz in der Schweiz (Linguistic Variety and Competence in Switzerland) carried out by the Institut für Bildungsevaluation an der Universität Zürich (IBE). She has been working as an Assistant Professor at USJ since February 2010 and took on the position as coordinator of Studies in Linguistics, Languages and Literatures during 2010-2012. Since 2014, she makes part of the editorial board of JLSP, Journal of Languages for Specific Purposes.
Along with her teaching activity, she has dedicated herself to the development of teaching material for several languages and to the linguistic research in Second Language Acquisition taking into account several areal and social settings as long as the learners' cognitive development. Her research interests focus on Second Language Acquisition, Diglossia, Language Policy, Curriculum and Teaching Material Development, Language Assessment, Sociolinguistics and Corpus Linguistics.
