PMP and CAPM Certifications are the world’s most well recognised certifications in Project Management.  The PMI estimates that China will need 1 million certified professionals until 2020. 

Project Management is one of the key competences for professionals in growing economies. Our School of Business is launching this Executive Diploma in Project Management to provide advanced project management skills and preparation for the PMP/CAPM certification.

Students who complete this programme will acquire PMBOK skills and learn practical skills to apply immediately in their work, including software, templates, business games, and other best practices.

Programme Structure

2017 Programme
12 days over 6 months
Module 1: Project Management Fundamentals

This module covers the main concepts about project management according to the PMBOK Guide. Ten management areas and five groups of processes are presented, followed by discussion of cases.

Module 2: Project Management Tools

This module focuses on computational tools used by project managers and teams including schedule management, change logs, resource management, and communication.

15 hours October 6-7, 2017


Module 3: Team Management and Leadership

People and communication are the source of most project issues. This module presents essential soft skills for an efficient project management team leadership and management, based on relevant best practices adopted by successful projects around the world.

15 hours November 3-4, 2017


Module 4: Project Risk Management

This module focuses on efficient project risk management, including identification, classification and analysis of risks. Qualitative and quantitative approaches are presented with a large set of tools and techniques for immediate adoption.

15 hours December 1-2, 2017


Module 5: Agile Project Management

This module focuses on agile techniques and methodologies used in project management, comparing and complementing it with other project management frameworks. It also explains how Agile PM techniques can be applied in a range of projects and areas.

15 hours January 5-6, 2018


Module 6: PMP/CAPM Certification Preparation

This module provides an intensive preparation for the PMP/CAPM certification. Students will learn about test question formats, timing, and answering strategies. To help professionals getting well prepared for this hard but valuable certification, we will also do a real test simulation.

PM_Prof. Alexandre Lobo, PhD, PMP Prof. Alexandre Lobo, PhD, PMP

Professor Lobo is an expert in information technology applied to health sciences. He holds a PhD in Engineering of Teleinformatics from the Technical University of Munich in Germany with the Federal University of Ceara in Brazil.  He is a certified professional in PMP, ITIL, Cobit, CCNA, LPI, ASE, and Computer Forensics. Over the last 20 years he has trained more than 2,300 professionals in technical and management areas in Brazil, United Kingdom and Angola. His experience includes managing projects in the health, education, telecom, IT and public administration sectors. He is a new member of the School of Business at the University of Saint Joseph.

PM_Prof. Marcus Gonçalves, PhD, PMP Prof. Marcus Gonçalves, PhD, PMP

Prior to creating MGCG (USA), Prof. Gonçalves was Chief Knowledge Officer and Chief Technology Officer at Virtual Access Networks (1999-2002), where he developed and co-patented the concept of a dynamic transcoding proxy, or an internet “cloud,” which was awarded Best Enterprise Product at Comdex 2001. This led to Symantec acquiring the company six months later. He was then CEO of iCloud (2003), which was acquired by GenExpo a year later, and the acting COO of Parkingaccess.com (2002). MGCG originally specialised in IT solutions, training and applications, but after the dot.com revolution, the group decided to focus on general management, project management, developing business in emerging economies, risk & knowledge management. MGCG attracted partners worldwide and consulted in more than 60 countries.

PM_Prof. José Alves, PhD Prof. José Alves, PhD 

He holds a PhD in Business Administration (University of Massachusetts Amherst), a Master in International Business (USJ) and a Civil Engineering degree (University of Coimbra). He is a registered Civil Engineer in Portugal where he worked as site engineer for several projects. He is currently the Dean of the School of Business of the University of Saint Joseph, where he teaches leadership and strategy. He is former Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and MBA Coordinator.

  • Students who complete six modules will receive an Executive Diploma in Project Management.
  • Students may also enroll in one or more modules and will receive a Certificate in Project Management for each module completed.
  • The awards are granted by USJ, MGCC Boston/USA and PMI.
