The programme “Foundation Year in Philosophy” prepares students for the study of Catholic Theology. The one-year programme covers the modules English I and II, Latin I and II, Logic, Ontology, Asian Philosophy, History of Classical Philosophy, History of Medieval Philosophy, Philosophy of Knowledge, Philosophical Anthropology, Axiology and Ethics, and Phenomenology of Religion. The programme is required for students who pursue the canonical ecclesiastical degree (5 years) granted by the Faculty of Theology, Catholic University of Portugal. Students enroll in the Foundation Year of Philosophy before taking the four-year Bachelor in Christian Studies. The programme also suits students interested in acquiring a solid philosophical foundation for further studies in Science, Humanities or Comparative Religion.
Full-time (day) programme
Classes take place from September to May each academic year. Summer classes, internships and examinations may be scheduled in June and July. Please refer to the official academic calendar for the most updated information.
On average, students will have approximately 18.5 hours of classes each week. Classes are scheduled from Mondays to Fridays, from 09:00 to 18:15. Exceptionally, classes may be scheduled in the evenings or on Saturdays.
