Course description:
This course intents to give participants a wide understanding of environmental technologies applied to environmental management, including water management, soil rehabilitation, solid waste disposal or energy production.
A multidisciplinary approach of problem-solving frameworks where environmental issues are addressed will be followed. The adequacy of the presented technologies to real case scenarios will constitute a distinctive asset, being considered international and local case-studies. The knowledge promotion concerning alternative technologies and policies for sustainable environmental management will empower and promote their application. The use of available resources and mitigation of human activities impact on ecosystems implies an integrated and strategic approach, being crucial a sustainable platform of knowledge.
The course will include field visits to two relevant facilities such as to environmental monitoring stations, wastewater treatments plants, solid waste management plants or large engineering projects in the area.
