USJ Professors and Students visited Office of Foreign Affairs on 23rd November 2015
On November 23, over 60 professors, staff and students of the University of St. Joseph, led by Pro-Rector Vincent Yang, visited the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China. They were warmly received by Director General Li Nan of Department of Public Diplomacy and Information, Director General Zhang Jian of International Organizations and Legal Affairs Department, and Deputy Director General Li Yang of Policy Research Department and other officials. The Director Generals delivered presentations on a series of special topics, ranging from hot issues relating to current foreign policies of China, foreign affairs relating to Macau, international conventions and laws applicable to Macau, as well as the main functions and work of the Office in Macau. Among the visitors were Ambassador Carlos Frota, Dean Jose Alves of Faculty of Administration and Leadership, Dean Ana Correia of Faculty of Education and Psychology and other professors, Director Teresa Loon of Office of Student Affairs, and students from bachelor, master and doctoral programs. Over half of them are international faculties and students. After the presentations, the three Director Generals answered questions raised by the professors and students regarding the roles of universities in public diplomacy, international cultural exchange, and making Macau the platform for cooperation between China and Lusophone countries. Prof. Yang gave high remarks to the Office’s significant achievement in promoting public diplomacy. He thanked the Office for its strong support to the development of internationalized education which has helped to broaden the perspectives of university students in Macau. Ambassador Carlos recalled his pleasant experience of working with the Office when he served as the Consul General of Portugal after the handover of Macau. He indicated that USJ can make special contribution to the cooperation between China and Lusophone countries. The students enjoyed the visit to the Office and believed that it helped them better understand the foreign policies of China as well as the learning of international law and the Basic Law of Macau.
